Step 1: Cut

Place a stocking cap you already have on the sweater as a pattern. Place the hat on the bottom of the sweater using the band as the hatband. Cut around the hat leaving about a 1/4-inch seam.(You can turn the hat wrong side out also, either way will work.)

Step 2: Stitch

Place right sides together and stitch around the hat with a 1/4-inch seam; (you can hand stitch or use a sewing machine). Turn right sides out.

Step 3: Block

To get a nice shape to the hat, you'll want to do a method called blocking.(There are many different methods of blocking so use the one that suits your project.) Place a damp pressing cloth onto the hat and press with and iron. (We like to use a piece of denim for our pressing cloth.)
