I love, love, love, love books. Yes, I’m speaking of the kind with covers and pages, they take up space, they’re bulky, trees and heavy machinery were probably used in most of their making. Would most say that the ‘greener, smarter’ way to go is the electronic book that shows up by way of nooks, kindles, or pads? I definitely appreciate the convenience of the readable gadgets from a traveling, space saving perspective, their effortless, paperless efficiency…..but to be honest, I don’t think anything could ever replace the ‘organic’ experience a REAL book gives us….flipping the pages, setting them on a shelf snugly amongst others, stuffing them in a bag, doodling notes on the pages, carrying them in your arms…..the clicking, the scrolling, the images under glass…it’s just not the same. I have books everywhere…I take them to the garden, I take them to bed, I take them in the car, I take them to the hammock….I’m never without a book…I refer to them over and over again…..there is so much to learn, so much to ponder, so many to choose from, there’s fun in sharing them…the excitement of finding an old tattered vintage one to leaf through. The sight of a book always brings a smile….a bunch of digital files and folders and thumbnails have never conjured up even the slightest of grins…(unless of course I thought it had been lost). Will there be a day when ALL books and reading material are only available on our computer devices….have to admit that would be a very, very sad day for this girl.
Cheers to a good old fashioned book! What’s your thought on the matter?
